As part of its ongoing partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS), representatives from the Nerium Ripple Foundation attended the March 16 kickoff for the Bigs in Blue Program in Dallas.

Strengthen the Bond Between the Community and Local Law Enforcement

Based on the BBBS model of one-on-one mentoring through a Big (adult volunteer) and Little (child age 6 to 18), Bigs in Blue pairs police officers with children in their community. In addition to helping the Little and his or her family, the program aims to strengthen the bond between that group and local law enforcement.

In Dallas, the goal is to have 300 police officers enrolled as Big Brothers and Big Sisters in the next 18 months, said Dallas Police Department Assistant Chief Paul Stokes.

“Community relations is such a huge part of the city of Dallas,” Stokes said in an interview with KDFW-TV. “So this gives officers an opportunity to actually mentor an at-risk child one-on-one and we believe the benefits of that one-on-one will have a ripple effect in the community.”

More Than $1 Million Raised to Date

Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star President Paul Chin told KDFW-TV that $1 million has been raised nationwide to support the program. The March 16 kickoff included recognition of a $500,000 donation from The Crystal Charity Ball and additional contributions from the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

Funds are used to pay for background checks for volunteers, enrollment of children for the matches and salaries for the social workers who supervise the matches and provide assistance to the Bigs and Littles throughout the relationship.

Nationwide, Community Members Will Raise $5 Million

Nationwide, BBBS plans to start or expand the Bigs in Blue Program in at least a third of its local chapters. There are currently more than 300 affiliates in the United States, so the program has an overall fundraising goal of $5 million.

More information about the Bigs in Blue program is available at http://ift.tt/2ogJj7W. There are links for local law enforcement personnel to volunteer and for community members and organizations to provide financial support.

Funds raised for BBBS by the Nerium Ripple Foundation are sent to local chapters across the United States, Canada and Australia for general use. Nerium Brand Partners and Preferred Customers who want to support Bigs in Blue specifically should refer to the website.
